Wolf has cut off his beard and I am very sad… I love him with a beard and he has worn one for 28 years; however, he has developed a heat rash on his face and has had to shave to allow it to clear up. Thought I would just add that tidbit of info too.
Had a late breakfast and asked Cary if we could take the car to Eldon’s Supermarket. It has been challenging catering to the likes and dislikes of the two people I am sharing meals with. Those that know Wolf, can attest to his somewhat fussy preferences, but I assure you, they aren’t a match for Cary’s. She does not eat red meat (but loves hamburger sauce – whatever that is). We think it is ground beef… as we served it with mash potatoes and vegetables and she had a big portion and said it was delicious. She loves scrambled eggs but not fried or poached eggs. She loves French toast covered in white sugar. She loves pasta but doesn’t like white or cheese sauce. She isn’t crazy about vegetables but eats raw carrots – not cooked carrots. She said she likes chicken – but I found out she will only eat Buffalo wings. And so on… and so on. I’m running out of ideas. I’m so glad my parents taught me to eat anything (however they didn’t succeed when it came to liver)
I love Eldon’s. It is clean and cool – powerful air-conditioning is part of their marketing strategy, I’m convinced, as I never want to leave. On the way home we popped in to see Adriaan at the Hungry Kiwi – he was pleased to see us and asked about Canada. I took photos while Wolf questioned him about the restaurant. We have agreed to meet again one afternoon with his wife.
When we arrived home Ceasar and Sonya (the lady who is employed to keep the gardens tidy) were waiting for new instructions. Charlotte has told them to do whatever I say. It’s a huge responsibility as the place is very big, with so much potential; however, there is not enough time to do all that is required to make it look decent. One of the priorities is to curtail the run-off, when it rains and the one in front of Cary’s entrance is complete.
Another is at the swimming pool. Red soil comes rushing down the bank and straight onto the paving and sometimes, into the pool. We are waiting for Cary to order more gravel and cement before we can start on that.

Wolf woke up with an upset tummy, and felt queasy all day. It’s been raining constantly since Saturday, with intermittent downpours and squalls. It seemed a good day to stay indoors, and he has been sprawled out on the daybed fast asleep. I hope it passes soon. I cleaned the condo and moved across to Cary’s place to clean as well. Every day it’s the same routine, sweep the sand out, and then mop with disinfectant solution, which smells just wonderful and super clean! I then wipe down the leather sectional and all the surfaces. It’s very dusty and smelly, and the dog and cat don’t help either.
I sat at home most of the day with Wolf not feeling well, but, had invited a missionary lady, Deborah (a friend of Charlotte and Gary, who teaches English at the little school) to join us for tea. She arrived at 3:00pm full of interesting stories, which kept us mesmerized and entertained until she left at 5:00pm. Can you believe the coincidence? Her sister and husband have been on Grand Comores living as undercover missionaries in Moroni, for eight years. We had so much to share and felt instantly connected. Please pray for them as they are in danger if the true nature of their work is discovered.
I am going to assist Deborah in keeping her blog up to date. You can follow along on www.teachingintheson.org and DeborahHunnicutt
After a good meal (which Wolf was able to eat) we watched an excellent DVD – a movie called “Flawless” (if you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it. It stars Demi Moore and Michael Caine)
So ends another day in paradise –
P.S it’s not all paradise…
I too, am covered in bites. We were told the bites are from sand-fleas. They are so itchy and persist for ages. Even bug-spray doesn’t keep them away too long.
